Good Afternoon CFTP,
I had a great time watching you all accomplish great things over the past week. Every week we have new prs and new accomplishments. I am particularly proud of those who competed both at the Angels of Havoc Competition and the Power Lifting Competition. Amanda Allred, Kylee Parker, and Kristen Gerth all competed at the Angels of Havoc Competition and did an amazing job. Amanda ended up in second place overall. Kristen got a new 3-rep deadlift pr of 195#! I am so proud of our members for their willingness to compete and represent our box. From what I hear we had the biggest group of fans out of anyone out at the XSI Factory. The support from our members is amazing. It makes competing so much easier.
We also had Hillary Waldron and Michelle ‘Mika” Cavender compete at the Power Lifting Competition. This is the first time we have had our athletes compete at such an event and they did an amazing job. Lead by our Power Lifting Coach, Coach Charms, they set new prs and finished strong. Hillary ended up with prs in both her back squat and her deadlift while Mika blew her deadlift out of the water with a ten pound pr. The atmosphere was great and I am proud of both of these athletes for competing. Hopefully in the next Power Lifting Comp we can get a few more of us out there.
Today I would like to focus a bit more on giving back. In this coming week we are going to be holding a fundraiser at the gym. We kicked it off last night at our Beast Mode and had a great turnout. I appreciate all the donations we have received thus far. We will be accepting cash, check, or card throughout this week and we hope that we all can give back and help out the “True Blue” association to give to those in need. There is a jar on a chair by the door for cash and check donations. Make checks out to CrossFit The Point. Also, if you want to use your card just get with me or one of the trainers and we will be sure to run your cards.
We will also be taking all the Sub for Santa gifts to the families this week. Thank you all so much for your contributions. You are giving the gift of Christmas to individuals who would otherwise be unable to have one. I can’t express how grateful I am.
My final note will be about goal setting. With the New Year almost upon us I want you all to be thinking of some New Year’s Resolutions. Personal goal setting is a must when it comes to anything in life. Carriann, our Iron Man, set a goal last year to train and finish an Iron Man. She set this huge goal and then set little goals to accomplish said goal. This is a great approach to goal setting. Set a goal that seems so far fetched that it would take a ridiculous amount of work and time to accomplish it. Set that goal and then set mini goals to get there. Goals can be anywhere from a 3 times body weight deadlift to a bandless pullup, running the Spartan or a marathon or as simple as a handstand. Everyone’s goals will be different but without goals we are just exercising. Think hard about your goals and let myself and your trainers know what those goals are. We are here to help you accomplish whatever your goal may be. If you need individualized programs let me know. I want to do all I can for you to accomplish your individual goals. We are here for you so please don’t hesitate to ask for help.
Finally, a couple of schedule change announcements. As I said last week, Foundations classes will be shifting to a two day a week course. From now on Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 PM will be for Foundations. There will be NO regular class on Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Also, 7:30 PM every day is open gym! Along with this on Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM there will be Open gym/Competitor WOD. So for all of you looking for that extra challenge and are interested in competing come on in on Wednesday Nights and join us for the Competitors WOD. If you are a regular at 7:30 PM and would like to just do the WOD for that day then you still can. Don’t forget about Saturday changes. Kids class has moved to 10 AM in place of our Yoga class. Yoga will start up again in January. We are still working on figuring out a good time for that.
