Good Morning CFTP,
Such a fun week this past week! Loved seeing our ladies letting loose on Friday night! You all made my week! I would like to thank JoAnn for heading up that event and to thank Coach Michelle and Coach Amber for training on Friday night. It looked like you all had a blast!
We have a very exciting challenge coming up! The Lurong Living Paleo Challenge. This will be the third year that we will be participating in this and it should be as good as ever. For those of you who don’t know what Paleo is I want to explain a little bit about it. The Paleo lifestyle is derived from the Paleolithic times (or caveman times). In this diet we are taught to eat only what they ate back in the day. This means we are allowed to eat meat, vegetables, nuts and seeds and fruit. In this challenge there is no limit to how much you eat but only of what you can eat. I have seen this way of eating change many people’s lives. Every time we do this challenge I am amazed at the transformation that takes place in my athletes. It is definitely not an easy transition but if you prepare beforehand and really work hard to stay honest you will see amazing changes in your body and in your performance in the gym.
The advantage of starting this diet in a challenge like this is that you will be surrounded by others in the gym who are doing the same thing. You will also be held accountable for what you eat. We will be provided with ample resources to make you successful and our nutritionist Amy will be available to help out with any questions you may have. Use your resources. You’ll be seeing Hillary or Susan or Amy or Randilee or even myself throwing Paleo Freezer workshops. If this is something you’d like to do I would highly recommend it. The hardest part about Paleo, in my opinion, is the preparation and always having the food you need available to you. It’s when you are unprepared that you revert back to swinging by the fast food joint for a burger.
Many of you know me and know that I am not the best example when it comes to eating the correct foods. I am very excited about this diet and I’ll tell you why. Last Saturday I ran in my second ever half marathon; having ran my first just 6 weeks earlier. It was a crazy fast course and I feel I definitely should have beat my previous score but I didn’t. To top it off the 1st prize in our age group went to Ryan… and the prize was an awesome belt buckle!!! (I LOVE MY BELT BUCKLES! ;)) There were probably multiple factors that prevented me from beating my previous score and I would say the main one was what I was putting into my body. I was unprepared as I started that race and it all started earlier in the week. I ate terribly and I paid for that lack of discipline in the race. My body ached and I started to cramp early on. My body needed the nutrients it gets from all natural foods and I fed it processed crap all week long and expected it to perform.
The fact is: you cannot abuse your body and expect it to perform for you. Your body wants those nutrients found in meat, vegetables, fruits, and nuts and seeds. It craves it. So take this challenge, as I do, and make the change. I can’t wait to do this with all of you and to see the changes it makes in your life.
