Good afternoon CFTP,
We have an amazing opportunity to hear from one of our awesome trainers. Coach Michelle is an individual full of knowledge and experience; not to mention one of the strongest ladies I have ever met. I can’t wait to for her to share some of that awesomeness with our CFTP family.
Before I turn the time over to her I want to make a couple of schedule change announcements and express how grateful I am for the position I am in. I am so lucky to have all of you as my friends at The Point. Yesterday I was able to do what I love to do most as a gym owner and that is rally around a worthy cause. Nothing pleases me more than to be able to have the position and the relationships where we are able, as a group, to make a difference in this world. I am so grateful for everyone who was involved in making yesterday’s Beast Mode Operation Underground Railroad Fundraiser a success. We have raised over $1,100 dollars so far and I am going to leave the donation jar out all through tomorrow in hopes of raising more. I will also leave the burpee challenge box out so everyone can make votes on who will do 2 burpees for every $1 raised. Anyone can be nominated and the top 3-5 individuals who get the most votes will complete the burpee challenge. The more money raised the more burpees completed. Every dollar helps move this worthy cause along.
Important schedule announcements starting this week:
Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:45 PM will now be regular WOD times. no more foundations during the week. (Yay!)
Foundations will now be on Saturdays. If you have new people who are looking to start we will now start them on Saturdays by appointment. So have them contact crossfitthepoint@gmail.com to set that appointment.
Saturday Morning Regular CrossFit Classes will now be shifting an hour earlier now that the time change has taken place. So regular classes will be at 8 and 9 AM.
Teens class starts this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. It’s only $40 a month for teens attending these two classes only. If your teen wants to come unlimited it’s an additional $15.
Final class change: We are adding an additional Olympic Lifting Class to Tuesday nights at 6:45. So there will be Olympic Lifting of Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:45. Please take advantage of these classes. I have seen huge improvements with those who have made it out to these classes. Tuesday nights at 6:45 will still have Coach Charms and the Power Lifting class available.

First I want to focus on the little voice inside our heads. What are we telling ourselves everyday?

 

 A couple of months ago, I noticed after each warm up, I’d be breathing pretty hard to get some air, I’d somewhat sarcastically say “I’m out of shape” when really, how many of us CrossFitters are “Out of Shape”? But all sarcasm aside, what I was telling myself was far from building myself to be better. Lisa M Hayes said “Be careful how you are talking to yourself, because you are listening” We all need to be aware of what we are saying to ourselves and what we are thinking. Is it building us, or making us better?

 

A lot of people have the mindset- the meaner and tougher we are on ourselves, better work and results will come. Every person eventually will hit a ceiling with this attitude. People thrive off of encouragement, and your self-talk is included in that. Pay attention to what you say to yourself inside and out loud. Are you telling yourself you’re fat? Are you telling yourself you suck at HSPU? Are you telling yourself that you are a failure because you only made it to CrossFit once this week?

Before winning the games this year, Camille Leblanc-Bazinet said she knew this was her year to win the games, Dave Castro asked her why, and she said “Because I have surrounded myself with a great support system” Not only was the support system the people in her life, but that included HERSELF. Quit setting limits on yourself, quit telling yourself you’re fat, quit telling yourself you suck at certain movements, or that you are never going to be as strong as the person next to you.
Change your thoughts, and you’ll change your world. Don’t set limits on yourself, be nice to yourself, have positive thoughts and every aspect of your life will change for the better. Not to mention you’ll probably be happier.
The last thing I wanted to talk about is excuses. The excuses we tell ourselves everyday. Unfortunately we are a very excuse-ridden society. If anything in our life is not where we know it should be, we have an excuse for it. People that aren’t getting their workouts in “Don’t have time” people that aren’t eating right “Don’t like healthy food”
One of my favorite quotes is “If you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way, if not you’ll find an excuse” All of us need to be aware of the excuses we are telling ourselves. Is there a goal you’ve been wanting to accomplish for a long time? A pull up? A muscle up? Is it a matter of skill or is it a matter of will? If we want something we need to put in the work. Ask for help on progressions, focus on that movement for 5 minutes everyday. Look at where your time in the day is going that isn’t useful. Do you come home and watch TV for 30 minutes while you unwind? Then get up and practice your handstands while the commercials are on. This doesn’t just go for CrossFit- it goes for every area of our lives that is ‘lacking’, it could be your family, your home, your work, even your spirituality.

 

Time is not something that is going to be handed to us on a silver platter- fact of the matter is no one has time. Everything comes with a sacrifice, if you want to lose weight but you don’t have ‘time’ for it- you have to sacrifice something in your life that isn’t helping you become better. Is the TV show more important to you than preparing meals to eat healthy for the days to come? Is scrolling through twitter going to help you PR on your Olympic lifts? Evaluate your goals, what you need to do to get there and MAKE TIME to work on them. 

 

I want you all to know how inspiring you are to me, as athletes and people. I walk away from CrossFit being better because of the influence you are. I LOVE to come to the gym and see people defy odds, and be excuse free. Our society is lazy, and I love seeing people come to the gym and move- and not just learn, but learn how to move well. I hope we can continue to come to the gym and make each other better. Keep up all the hard work you put in and thank yourself for all your doing to make yourself better!
