Good Evening CFTP,

I hope you all had a great Christmas with family and friends. This next week is going to be a happening one! It is New Year’s week! Now… For those of you who were with us last year you all know what is about to come your way this New Year’s Day… For those who weren’t here last year then you are in for a treat! Every year we do a WOD in commemoration of one of my first CrossFit WODs that I performed four years ago… Murph. Also at the end of this week there will be a group of us heading up to the Cold War Competition at CrossFit Iota… We have multiple teams going up and a teen individual. I will post details on this competition this upcoming week. I hope that all of you who are available will have a chance to come out and watch.

Today, with the Hero WOD Murph coming up I would like to reflect on what this week means to me. I first started my CrossFit life while deployed in Iraq. While we were there me and a group of very close battle buddies decided to start doing CrossFit. While Murph was not my first CrossFit workout it was the one that set me on the course that I have taken. I have always felt that many heroes are unsung. These heroes’ stories are rarely ever told. When I learned that CrossFit chose heroes and named workouts in their honor I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. By now most of you know the story of Lt. Michael P. Murphy. His heroism and that of his teammates; Axe, Danny, and Marcus Latrell is something we can all reflect on and learn from.

This past week I spent the Christmas season down in Las Vegas with my in-laws and on the way down and on the way back Emily and I listened to the story of this team of Seals. I have seen the movie but have never listened to Marcus Latrell’s personal account. I am sure you all have at least heard of the story if not seen the movie “Lone Survivor”. If you haven’t I highly recommend watching it prior to coming in and doing Murph this Thursday morning. Being able to honor these heroes in our own little way is special and the more you know about their stories and the more you understand who they were, the more meaning this WOD will have for you.

Then there is the part of this being the WOD I remember most early on in my CrossFit career. Ever since this WOD my life has shifted directions. I made the decision to become a trainer so I could share my love for CrossFit and what it has done for me. I then decided to embark on the opening of a box which has brought many great people and great experiences into my life that I will cherish forever. CrossFit has definitely changed my life and I hope to see it change the lives of those I care about.

We all have a CrossFit story. We all can remember that WOD that shifted our understanding of what our goals really are. We all have that person that we worked with that changed the way we looked at our fitness and the way we looked at our bodies and what our bodies are truly capable of. We all have made the decision that mediocrity is just not an option anymore and that your goal in life is to be excellent. I love hearing your stories and can’t wait to continue watching you on your journey.

Let’s start this upcoming year of right and rededicate ourselves to our health and wellbeing.
