I’m in there somewhere! VEGAS SPARTAN

Good Afternoon CFTP,

Just walked in the door from the Vegas Spartan. I want to give a huge shoutout to those who competed… Adam Carpenter, Erica and JJ Petersen. Huge thanks to Steve Arnoldus and Erica Carpenter for being out in the crowd cheering us on. Shoutout to Brandon Merrill, husband of Amy Merrill, for his amazing time as well. It was a challenging course and they all did amazing. It was so much fun being able to compete with this group of peeps.

A couple things I learned this weekend. Number one, and I think most importantly, we need to do more competitions and activities together as a gym. There is no other group around that are more sincere and more awesome than the group we have at The Point. The race was awesome for sure but the best part of the whole trip was being able to hang out with my friends, who all happen to be at The Point. This needs to happen more often and I need your help to make this possible. Whenever you hear about any activity or race or competition that you are planning on doing; don’t keep it to yourself. Tell me and we will get a group together. We missed a prime opportunity this past weekend to be part of an amazing event just down south at Hermes CrossFit… Festivus Games. It is a great beginner CrossFit competition and we had zero from The Point attend. We had some attend last year and had a blast so hopefully we don’t miss out on future comps.

For your information. We already have members of our gym going to the next three upcoming competitions. There is still room in these so let’s get on there and let’s participate or at very least let’s get a group together to go cheer those who signed up on. The next one is FitCon which is this upcoming Friday and Saturday. Coach Jeremy Clifford and Hillary Waldron will be competing in the powerlifting portion. There is a CrossFit portion that still have openings. You can check out details here. https://fitconutah.com.

The next one is the Mountain Meltdown. Spots are filling up fast on this one. Last I heard there were only 20 spots left. I know we have at least 5 or 6 already signed up for this one. Come join us. We did this one last year and loved it. It is ran by Chris Spealer and is an awesome event. Check it out here! http://www.mountain-meltdown.com

The final one, which has been moved to May 30th, is the Mercenary Mile. This is being held down at Pepperbox CrossFit and we have at least two teams already going. It is a 2 guy 2 girl team. There aren’t a lot of teams signed up yet and I know we can do well down there. The prizes are awesome. Check out the details here. http://www.mercenarymile.com

Regardless if you are competing in these or not we should make an event of it and go cheer on those who are. It is so much fun and there are no better people to hang out with. Please let me know if you have questions that I can answer about any of these upcoming competitions. Also, please, please, please let me know if you are running in any races or anything. I want to go and watch you! I love watching all of you putting your fitness to the test outside the walls of the gym.

My second lesson from this weekend was this… If you expect to do well at anything, you better plan on putting in the work… Instead of focusing on how I didn’t put the work in for Spartan I want to focus on Adam. Adam Carpenter was a great example of this to me. Adam has been running the Spartans with me this year and I have watched him as he has developed into a solid Spartan racer. Adam straight up beat me this past weekend. Doesn’t hurt my pride to admit this because I have seen what Adam has done this past year since his first Spartan Race back in June 2014. He made the decision to be in the top 5 percent of the pack and this past weekend he surpassed that and out of 10,000 runners he was in the top 200. That’s the top 2%! (Numbers may be off since the official results have yet to surface.) It has been so much fun to be on the outside looking in as his hard work has paid off.

This is what I want you all to take into this coming week and month and even year. Success isn’t an overnight thing. It takes work and consistency. It takes a conscious effort on your end to meet your goals. Stay dedicated and let’s go out and conquer!
