Good Afternoon CFTP,
What a week! Yesterday was amazing. It was so great to see everyone at the BBQ… More on that in a bit.
I want to first talk about the amazing performances by our athletes at The CrossFit Crippler. Our two lady teams along with two of our individual men, Jeffrey Wheeler and Nate McArthur, did an amazing job yesterday against some very strong competition.
Let’s talk about Amy and Angie first. They competed and finished top of the podium in the scaled division. These two ladies didn’t hold back. I was so impressed with their hard work and determination every time they stepped foot out onto the competition floor. They were perfect examples of the advice of, “leave everything out on the floor and let the points sort themselves out.” They went into the final event ranked 4th… With this last opportunity to podium they left it all out there and finished first against the final heat of ladies. With that final win this gave them enough points to win the whole thing! Watching these two compete yesterday truly was a treat.
Then there were these two ladies. As you can see in the picture they were hungry for a win! They started out a little behind after the first event but then went into the chipper and just dominated! This put them into 3rd going into the final event. Then the announcement… Final WOD will be 6 Bar muscle ups and a 100 meter partner carry. Uh oh… Neither of these ladies had ever completed a successful muscle up on a bar or on the rings… I guess it was time for them to do something they have never done. Before the WOD began they were working on it and JoAnn… sort of got one. ;). At the sound of 3…2…1…Go. JoAnn performed the most beautiful bar muscle up! The eruption from the crowd was electric. When that 8 minute cap had sounded JoAnn had completed 6 bar muscle ups and the fireman carry. Marianne with no time to attempt was unable to complete her first one (but that day is coming fast).
While this final WOD pushed them out of the top 3 it was a huge step in JoAnn’s progression as an athlete. I think we all can take something from this. Competitions push us to new heights. We have been working on muscle ups with JoAnn for months and months and she can now officially say she has them.. (Now you have to maintain that!)

After all of that excitement we were all able to get together and hang out away from the gym. Look at this amazing group of people. We had a few more that came earlier or came later and of course a few of you who weren’t able to make it but this right here is what it’s all about. I am so lucky to know all of you and to have you as part of my extended family. It was such an amazing night filled with amazing people. I want to thank all of you who helped out to make this a success. First of all thank my wife Emily for helping with the set up and everything else she does behind the scenes. Huge thank you to Shante and her work on getting all the food and games and organizing this awesome event. It’s so nice to have someone who is willing to put in the extra work it takes to put fun events like this together. I gotta say thank you to the two grill masters Danny and Dave. Thanks to the amazing treats provided by The Sweet Tooth Fairy (fairies) Ethan and Megan Brown! I was telling them I wanted to keep the extras… Well there were no extras to be found! Then there were the awesome paleo treats provided by Paleoful AKA Lauren Montalette! So good! Finally “the person who knows how to get things” Caleb Deibert! The movie was amazing and it wasn’t going to happen without everything that you brought. Thank you again.
We are surrounded by amazing, talented people who are so willing to share their talents with us.
Finally a couple of announcements. First of all baby sitting. We are adding a second hour of babysitting permanently to the schedule. Ciara has done an awesome job with covering it but now she will be going back to school so we have found two more people to fill in and cover the 8:30 AM daycare.
With this I also want to reiterate the rules of the kid area and bringing kids to CrossFit. Because of the nature of CrossFit we must be firm in the stance of no kids out on the floor. I know this has become a little bit misunderstood as of late. THE FLOOR INCLUDES THE TURF AREA. The only kids allowed in the turfed area are kids in carseats and kids in playpens. There will be no exceptions to this rule. For the safety of all kids please follow this rule. We are working on extending the kids area into the front entrance area for the bigger kids. They are allowed to sit in there as is but eventually hopefully we can throw in a door to separate the two areas. THIS RULE APPLIES TO BOTH MORNING AND EVENING CLASSES!
With these improvements and adding a new daycare hour we will now be asking for a $10/month additional fee for anyone who will use the 8:30 or 9:30 AM daycare. This will help in the upkeep of the daycare area. Including adding toys, movies, and keeping the area clean and sanitized. This won’t cover all the costs but will definitely help The Point make it possible to continue this service. We know that daycare is an important service to provide and we hope that you all understand where we are coming from. I will be there in the morning tomorrow and get a list of all those using this service and get you all set up. If you have any questions please feel free to talk with me.
Thank you again for being the best members around. I am happy to know you and to associate with you.
