Coach Dan’s Sunday Spotlight

Good Evening CFTP,

I am so excited to be back to the world after a few day hiatus. I have missed you! It was great to get away and take a break but great to be back. I learned a few things this past week.

Every once in a while as an athlete you need to give your body and your mind a break. It can be a rejuvenating and help you come back and hit things hard again. When we push ourselves day in and day out at The Point it’s important that we listen to our bodies and let our bodies and our minds recover. Sometimes a break for your mind is as important or even more important than the break of the body. Getting away for a day or two can bring about a greater motivation and make your time spent at the gym more effective.

When I say “take a break” I don’t mean sit around and eat chips on your couch. I mean get out and use your earned fitness out in the world. Go paddle boarding, hiking, running, biking, swimming, or whatever else you enjoy doing. The purpose of functional fitness, which is what CrossFit is, is to make it possible for you to enjoy your life more fully. You condition your body everyday and are becoming a stronger and fitter person. While it is awesome to see those gains through the weight you lift and the movements you perform it is just as important to see that progress out in the real world.

Obviously consistency in the gym is a must but every once in a while get out and enjoy the body you have earned.
