Marianne and Kindra leaving it all out on Lockdown WOD Week 1.

Good Morning CFTP,

This first week of Lockdown has been a blast so far! You all still have 2 more days to get your WOD in! Tomorrow we have abbreviated hours for Labor day; 7,8, and 9 AM. You can come during that time. Dave said he would stay a bit after the 9 AM class if you need to come a bit later to get it done. You also have all day Tuesday to complete the WOD. If you have not signed up but would like to… There is still time. Go to this link and sign you and your partner up.¬†https://www.wodrocket.com/index.php/find-events?tab=event&event_id=2354&sub_tab=details Remember that the proceeds to Lockdown will go to the Veteran’s with PTSD Warrior Camp. If you decide not to sign up but still would like to donate, I will provide a way for you to donate to this worthy cause.

Friday night was a blast! It is so inspiring to see you all push past your limits. This first week’s WOD was a WOD that takes grit to grind through to the end. Really proud of all of you. I hope we can get an even bigger showing this coming Friday night. I can’t wait to see Steve Arnoldus’ pictures from this past Friday night.

One thing I hope you all learn from this friendly competition is that you can do hard things. It amazes me just how hard you are willing to push yourselves when you are challenged. Many times in the gym I feel many of us are just going through the motions and just there to get the job done. While I am proud of the fact that you are in the box and you are doing the work, perhaps we could push ourselves a bit further than just going through the motions.

I want to challenge each of you to choose one WOD a week where you lay it all out on the floor. Where you push yourself harder than you thought you could. Where you push past your mental barriers you put on yourself. When you see the WOD posted the night before you look at it and you strategize. You figure out what you can do to complete the WOD faster and more efficiently. Doing this daily can be overkill but I believe we all need at least one WOD a week that we treat like a competition. When we are done with the WOD we are depleted both physically and mentally because we pushed ourselves harder than we though possible. This does two things in my opinion.

First of all, this will have physical benefits. When we push our bodies to the limit we build muscle and strength that cannot be built in any other way.

The second thing that this does is that it pushes us past what we mentally thought possible. It creates possibilities that before were unobtainable. This benefits us in the gym but more importantly it benefits us in our everyday lives. We start to see ourselves in a different light. It shows us what we are truly capable of. CrossFit is more than just a means of making us fit physically. It is a way to build us up mentally and creates a platform of confidence that will carry over into our daily lives. I have seen this in my life time and time again. Because of CrossFit, when challenges arise in my life I am more mentally equipped to face them. This far surpasses any of the physical abilities CrossFit has brought into my life.

I am really proud of all of you who accepted the challenge of doing the Lockdown this year. I know it takes many of you out of your comfort zones but you still accepted the call. There were even some of you who had no idea what you signed up for but you did it anyways and watching you compete and push yourself has been amazing for me. I want to thank you for your willingness to contribute to a great cause that is close to my heart as well. I am lucky to be part of a community that cares.
