Good Afternoon CFTP,
This week was so awesome! It was so great to see all the personal records set the last 2 weeks. In total we set over 400 new records between 4 different movements. This last strength cycle has been amazing and I want to tell you why.
It was a basic cycle but it really isn’t about the specific program. It is all about the execution of the program. Out there in the fitness world there are more programs than I can count. Each one claiming that there’s is the best. Each one claiming that by following their programming you will become stronger than ever, faster than ever, fitter than ever. What do I have to say to those claims? I 100 percent agree.
All of these programs do work but it’s only if you do them. It is the completing of the program fully that bring the desired results. One set of PRs stood out to me on Monday. A group of our 5:30 AM ladies were throwing on the weights and just blowing their previous records out of the water. It was incredible how they were feeding off of each other as they added 5 pounds to their PR then 10, then 20, then 30… They were unstoppable! But then I thought back to the past 8 weeks and this same group of ladies have been pushing each other everyday. They show up and they put in the work. They are there every day. They don’t miss. They don’t just go through the motions. They have goals and they are sticking to them. When the board says to do 5@75%, 3@85% and 1+@ 95% they were doing what they were asked. They were at the gym on time and getting their warmup in. On their 1+ they hit at least 2 or 3. It was the daily actions of these athletes that made a difference on max day. Programs only work if you do the work.
With that in mind. Over the next 2 months I have some new goals for us as a gym. I want to provide the best preparation possible for the CrossFit Open. I want every one of our athletes to compete this year. It doesn’t matter to me what level you are at. My goal is to build up those lungs and that strength and that endurance to give you the best chance possible to compete at your highest level.
This means that the programming is going to look a little different. The goal of the WODs will be the same as always, to get you fitter but these next couple of months may push your mental game a little bit more. It will only push your mental game if you push yourself. We will be providing WODs that are designed to build up your sets and make you believe that you can do one more rep. To build your confidence to know that you can do more than you think you can.
I have a very high belief in your abilities. I know that you all have capabilities that will surprise you. I hope that in the this next two months and forward you are able to surprise yourself. I hope that you are able to see yourself doing things you never thought possible or at very least things that you believed you wouldn’t be doing for months or years down the road.
I love this time of year. The new year is upon us and it is time to set those goals high and put in the work to achieve them.
