Coach Dan’s Sunday Spotlight 7.30.2017

Good Afternoon CFTP,

I am so excited to be back after a much needed week off. Huge thank you to our training team for keeping things rolling for me while I was gone! It was really cool to see how you all did on the programming I left for you all. Good work last week!

I have a couple of announcements before I get into the meat and potatoes of my spotlight this week.

Quarterly DexaBody Scan

Dexabody is coming this Wednesday, August 2nd! Click here to sign up for the time you want! Click on August 2nd CrossFit The Point and select your time. If none of those times work then just come in during the day on Wednesday and they will get you in.

What is Dexabody?
Dexabody is a scan that is more accurate than any scan I have ever gotten. They scan your body mass and let you know what lean body mass you have compared to your fat mass. It shows you exactly where your fat is and where your lean muscle is. It gives you information on your bone density and a whole plethora of information that will help you figure out where you are at and what changes you may need to make going forward.
We have Dexabody come every quarter and on top of that we add a little more incentive by doing a winner takes all in house competition. In this competition we put $40 each into a pool and the top losers win the cash! We will continue to do this from here on out and the last pool was huge.
So if you sign up for the scan be sure to sign up for the winner take all pool and give yourself that extra motivation to eat healthy and work hard.

Salute The Point July Special

The Salute The Point 3 month special is almost over. Your friends and family have until Wednesday to sign up for the 3 month/ $150 deal. After Wednesday they will only be eligible for the half off their first month deal that we run year round.

If you have brought someone in but you did not get credit for the referral, please let me know. I want to make sure everyone who brought people in get credit for it so we can get our accurate winners for the competition.

Our Foundations Classes will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 6 PM. So let your peeps know. If they have any questions or if they want to take advantage of this deal, please have them contact me at Dan@crossfitthepoint.com

CFTP MEMBERSHIP

Today, I want to talk to the new crew coming into The Point. If you have friends that you have invited this month, please have them read this. If you have friends who are on the fence and would like to know what being a CFTP member really means, please refer them to this spotlight. Here are a few things that, you as a member can expect.

What to expect from us!

Environment

At CrossFit The Point we strive to create an environment of growth. We want you to be able to come in and grow as athletes and as human beings. We are very passionate about helping out our CFTP family and care about each of you. We understand that not every member is created equal and that we all are at different places in our athlete journey. Our goal is to provide an environment where, no matter what level you are at, you are progressing to becoming fitter and more confident.

Family

We are in very many aspects, a family. Some of our closest friendships have come from individuals we have met at The Point. This can be intimidating for new members because it feels like you are marrying into a family where everyone knows each other and you are the in-law. I am very aware of this challenge. It can feel like you are an outsider but I hope you don’t feel that way for long. Even though we are all close, we are also very accepting. Give us a chance and I know you will feel the same way. Come in and talk with our peeps. Every single class period has a different dynamic but not one will ignore you. Don’t be afraid to come in even though your “one friend” couldn’t make it today. We have a box full of good people who would love to be your friend!
Along with the closeness of a family comes challenges. How many people here have never fought or argued with their own family? This is going to happen when people get close. If you have a problem with someone or if something happens, please don’t let it eat away at you. Talk to each other and just like siblings fight, we get over it and move on. If you ever have issues with trainers, talk to me about it. I can talk with my training team and try my best to fix the problem. On the other side, if you start talking crap about someone then it creates a very destructive environment and will not help our community.

Top notch Training and programming

Over the years I have built a training team that I am very proud of. I do not just let anybody train you. I only allow trainers that I trust and trainers that I know have your best interest at heart. These trainers are not only your trainers but they are also your fellow athletes. They are doing the workouts right along side you. They understand the struggles you are going through and they are there to direct you and to make sure you are doing things correctly.
It’s not just an act by these trainers. They sincerely care. If you have a question, don’t hesitate to ask. They will help you. These trainers have years of experience and multiple certifications. Every year we send them to new trainings in order to keep their training styles up to date and to keep them learning. If you have an issue with one of my trainers then please talk with me and we will work to solve the problem. I have attended classes by all of these trainers and I have seen them in action and I know that they know their stuff but I can’t be there all the time so if there is an issue then I definitely want to work to solve it.
For 6 years now, I have been programming the workouts. That means I have programmed over 1800 workouts. I have learned through trial and error and through much research. I program for our gym. Our gym is unique and you deserve a program that works with all of you to help you overcome your weaknesses and build up your strengths. Just like anyone, I am continually learning and my programming is constantly improving. Just know… I take my time with my programming and I think about each and every one of you when I program the workouts I do.

What we expect from you!

Consistency

In order for CrossFit to work for you, I need you to be consistent. I have had people come through during the 3 months and at the end they have told me, “It didn’t work for me.” I look back at their attendance and in the 3 months they may have come a total of 10 times! Of course it didn’t work for you. You were never here. Don’t let that be you. Take advantage of this trial period and really give it a chance.

Attitude

Have a good attitude and open mind. We all come into CrossFit with preconceptions. Some of them may be true but many aren’t. Give CrossFit The Point a chance. All CrossFit gyms are not created equal. Don’t let a bad experience somewhere else prevent you from giving The Point a chance. In CrossFit, you will need a positive attitude to survive. You are going to have setbacks and you are going to struggle but if you have the right attitude you will be successful.

Housekeeping

When you finish a workout please clean up after yourself. If you used the equipment, please put it in it’s right place. Take care of your equipment. The equipment you use everyday is your equipment. If it breaks then it needs to be replaced and the more money I spend replacing equipment the less cool stuff I can add to the gym. We need to take pride in the way our gym looks.
If you bring your kids then please clean up after them before you leave. We don’t need ants and critters getting into the gym to eat up your smashed crackers and half eaten bananas.
DON’T CLEAN UP YOUR MESS UNTIL THE CLASS IS ALL THE WAY DONE! YOUR TEAM NEEDS YOU TO CHEER THEM ON TO FINISH.

Join us

What I mean by this is join us 100%! Participate with us. Come to our events and become a part of us. I announced above about our pool party… COME! Come hangout and enjoy the company of the best group of people I know. Don’t be one foot in and one foot out.

Team

Every day you come in you are a part of that class’ team. You all are in the workout together. If you finish early, cheer on your teammate. Push them to finish. We are not done until the whole class is done. Please don’t start cleaning up and leaving while your teammate is struggling through the workout. If you don’t want to cheer, then just chill and do some mobility until the time cap. There is nothing that sucks more than to already be struggling and then have someone next to you who has finished cleaning up and leaving you.
Another important part of being a part of a team is being on time for the workout. Please do your best to be on time for class. Join the group in the warmup and stretch. When you come in late you disrupt the class and more importantly you rush through the warmup and create more potential for injury. Let’s all try a bit harder to be on time.

Ok. I think this is a great list. I am so excited for all the new peeps. Current CFTP veterans… Don’t make me a liar! Welcome our new family members with open arms.

I love you all and am so excited to be back training you all this week. We’ve got a great week of programming ahead with a couple of Olympic Lifting maxes!

Coach Dan

This week’s Athlete Spotlight goes to Kindra Nilsson!

1. How long have you been at The Point?
Hmmm…. I believe it’s been 4.5 years?
2. What do you do for a living?
I work full time at the Nilsson Compound
3. Prior to finding CrossFit what did you do for physical exercise?
I had A Golds membership and would hit the treadmill maybe like, once a month? I was nowhere near athletic and lacked self confidence.
4. If you had to pick your favorite accomplishment during your CrossFit journey so far, what would it be?
Ring muscle ups- it took me almost 6 yrs to get one!
5. What is one piece of advice you could give new CrossFitters that you wish you knew before you began?
Be patient and be consistent.
It doesn’t matter if it’s your first day, or you’ve been there six years, there is always something to learn, perfect, or tweak. There is always room for progress.
6. What is your favorite movement in Crossfit? Cleans. I have strong legs so that works in my favor 😉
7. What is your favorite all time WOD you have done?
I dont really have a favorite wod,  but I love partner wods.
8. What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Be more consistent.
9. Before starting CrossFit what was your view of CrossFit? How has that changed since joining?
I felt CrossFit was for people that were already in great shape. But that is simply not true, Crossfit is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you have never worked out a day in your life, or if you are a professional athlete… Everyone there is pushing themselves mentally and physically to become faster and stronger and to become a better and healthier version of themselves.
10. Give me a brief summary of your CrossFit journey thus far.
I started Crossfit when my daughter was only 6 months old. I was out of shape and unhealthy. My friend mentioned that she was doing Crossfit and loved it, so I figured I’d give it a try. Devan started  along with me to be supportive, and both of us very quickly got hooked. Crossfit has improved our lives and has allowed us to be great examples for our children. We’ve discovered that when we do crossfit, we have more energy to play with our kids, we’re more positive, more patient, and balanced. I love having this in common with my husband, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Trainer’s thoughts on Kindra:
Coach Dan: I freaking love Kindra. I am so happy Kindra and Devan joined us and have been with us for so long. Kindra is strong! She is stronger than she thinks many times. I love seeing her surprise herself with some of the things she is able to do. Not only is Kindra a strong athlete inside the box but she is also a great example of what healthy eating and CrossFit can do to your body. She is consistently eating healthy and working hard and the results speak for themselves.
Coach LaDee: “Kindra, hidden gem crossfitter. Kindra has been doing crossfit a long time and is so strong and talented, but you’d never know it cause she never brags about it. She just comes in, gets the work done and heads on her merry way! Love seeing her in the gym!”
Coach Leslie: “Kindra is so strong. She’s an amazing example of great balance, she’s an awesome Mom, wife, friend and all around person! I’m so happy she is at The Point!”
Coach Mandy: “Kindra is always so humble and very fun to being around! Awesome athlete and fun to work with!”
