Coach Dan’s Sunday Spotlight 8.6.2017

Good Afternoon CFTP,

First off, thank you all for the crazy amount of referrals we received over the last month and welcome to all of our newbies! I feel so lucky to have a group of members so willing the share the importance of fitness with their friends and then referring them and trusting us to take care of them. I don’t take that lightly and I really hope that all the newbies feel welcome as they join our tribe.

A really good way for you all to get to know us is tomorrow night. We are getting together at the Riverton outdoor pool at 7:30 until 9:30 PM. All members are invited to join us. Please come out and bring your families. We have the pool to ourselves and it should be super fun. Bring some snacks to share or some food for your families. I can’t wait to see everyone at the pool. Go here to RSVP.

With the 2017 Salute The Point promotion behind us I want to announce the winners of our referral portion of the competition. You all did not disappoint but there were 4 who earned the right of top referral getters:

With all these new peeps comes a time to really show our character as members and people. These newbies are in the same position you were in when you started. This means that they are still learning and that means that explanations and demonstrations will take a little bit longer. Veterans, please be patient and be kind. Also, with this influx of members we will be getting busier. This is a good thing! More people to join our community and more people getting fit. Please work with us and the trainers in the classes. We are doubling up trainers in almost every single class to help out. We have plenty of equipment and the room, while it might be tight, is enough to accommodate. Just like when WODs are announced, we must adapt as changes happen. Please be helpful in this transition. Hopefully we are able to expand in the near future but for now stick with us as we grow. 🙂

We will also be looking at changing up the early morning classes. Unofficially we are moving the two morning classes a half hour earlier to help accommodate the early morning when school starts. 5:30 will move to 5 AM and 6:30 will move to 6 AM. This will not go into effect until September. Once we get more permanent on this decision, we’ll put out plenty of warning. (7:30 may still move to 7AM… I will do another survey to decide that.)

Winners for the last quarter Dexabody will not be announced until tomorrow. I am still waiting on the official results from Dexabody.

I hope you all had a chance to watch the CrossFit Games this weekend. It has been so fun to watch and it’s even more fun when you are a CrossFitter. You can understand the pain they are going through and also you can appreciate the amazing feats these athletes are accomplishing.

Thank you all again for this awesome month of growth and thank you for working so hard to be your best self. I can’t wait to see you all this coming week.

Coach Dan

Today’s athlete spotlight goes to Janelle Ott!

1. How long have you been at The Point?
4 years
2. What do you do for a living?
I am a Mom to 3 awesome girls
3. Prior to finding CrossFit what did you do for physical exercise?
I was a runner, I loved to do half/full marathons and team relay races & I did classes at lifetime
4. If you had to pick your favorite accomplishment during your CrossFit journey so far, what would it be?
I’ve had a lot of personal accomplishments, but finally being able to string my t2b and hspu’s have been a big deal for me! 🙂

5. What is one piece of advice you could give new CrossFitters that you wish you knew before you began?
Just enjoy each new accomplishment, work hard and have fun! Don’t get caught up in what you can’t do, celebrate the things you can and you’ll get there! I feel like I’m constantly still learning new things. There are always things to get better at and learn at Crossfit! Enjoy the ride!
6. What is your favorite movement in CrossFit?
Running!! ha ha (but true) I also like power cleans!
7. What is your favorite all time WOD you have done?
I don’t have one particular, but I love partner workouts, I love hero wods, and I love KB Wednesdays! (mostly cuz they’re longer and lots of cardio too)
8. What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Butterfly pullups, ring dips on rings (not bull)
9. Before starting CrossFit what was your view of CrossFit? How has that changed since joining?
I never actually had a desire to do Crossfit.  It seemed super “military like” and really hard, heavy weights.  Then, we found a deal and Holly Naylor and I decided to give it a go, and here we are 4 years later! We got sucked in!
10. Give me a brief summary of your CrossFit journey thus far.
I love it! I’ve always loved to workout, but this has been a new challenge.  I love that it changes everyday, I love the people, and I love getting stronger and doing things I never even knew I wanted to be able to do. (like pullups, hspu’s, c2b’s, etc)  I love the atmosphere, no matter what time I go, there are always great, fun people to workout with it’s so much fun! I love pushing myself & we’ve met some of the greatest people on earth through the Point, so I will be forever grateful for that!
Trainer’s thoughts on Janelle!
Coach Dan: Janelle has been with me for 4 years and I have seen such growth from her. The biggest growth I’ve seen is how much she has grown mentally. She has become stronger physically and mentally. It’s been really fun to watch her grow.
Coach Krishelle: “Janelle is amazing! She is such a hard worker and she is so kind to everyone. She is a super fast runner and she is so inspiring how she always sticks around and does extra work after the WOD. Love her!”
Coach Leslie: “I just love Janelle! She has worked so hard this past year on nutrition and staying after class to do an extra wod! She’s so fun and encouraging!”
Coach Mandy: “She is so kind and humble! Works hard and is very consistent about getting there and getting her work done! She is a very fast runner too!! You can tell she is a wonderful person inside and out!”
