What a wonderful evening yesterday being able to celebrate the wedding of two of our members. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Darin and Mandi Billeter! It was an honor attending your reception and I am lucky to know you and to be able to witness this amazing relationship bloom. Good luck to you both!
World Class Fitness in 100 words
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.
Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, clean and jerk, and snatch. Similarly master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row etc, hard and fast.
Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.
Regularly learn and play new sports.

Regularly Learn and Play New Sports
I want to touch on this piece of Greg Glassman’s definition of world class fitness. Yesterday I played in my first outdoor soccer game in 6-7 years. For those of you who don’t know, soccer has been my passion my whole life. I played all the way from age 4 through college. My final place I played was Utah Valley University and then after I graduated I stayed an extra year and coached at UVU. It was my life and it was something I threw all my energy into.
Just like all of you, after college, life kind of got away from me and soccer took a backseat. I started working and figuring out what I was going to do for a living and the longer you stay away from something the scarier it gets to return to it. When you play at as high of a level as the college level you expect a certain standard of play out of yourself and as the years went on I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to live up to my own expectations if I stepped foot out onto the field. So… I kept putting off getting back onto the field. I kept coming up with excuses to why I couldn’t play. Until now…
I committed to play and I did. The first game had my nerves on edge but it was like riding a bike… If that bike’s wheels had been replaced with square wheels. IT WAS ROUGH! It hurt and more than anything it hurt my ego. First half was actually pretty good but that second half was like running through quicksand but I played all 90 minutes, probably the only player to play the full 90, and even though I am the oldest member of my team I felt like I held my own.
Now the reason I share this is because I want you all to try things that scare you. Sign up for something that has made you nervous but you have always wanted to do. Go back to that old sport that you loved growing up and play it again. You all work hard at The Point and you have earned the right to enjoy your fitness. Get outside the gym and explore new things. LEARN AND PLAY NEW SPORTS. I’ve been walking funny since 6 PM yesterday and I feel like I got hit by a bus but I loved getting out there and playing with the young bucks.

MP: I have been at The Point for 375 days, 13 hours, and 48 seconds (since writing this).
2. What do you do for a living?
MP: Sr Director of Product Management at a home automation company. Translation: I babysit programmers to make sure they don’t do crazy stuff.
3. Prior to finding CrossFit what did you do for physical exercise?
MP: Is eating considered a physical exercise? Then, eating.
MP: My favorite accomplishment is that I actually make it to the box everyday. This is just uncharacteristic for me. But, I have to say deadlifting 405#, felt pretty cool.
5. What is one piece of advice you could give new CrossFitters that you wish you knew before you began?
MP: I don’t think I have one. Just try it, remove any excuses and just go for it with an open mind.
6. What is your favorite movement in CrossFit?
MP: Box jumps (30″, more than half my height 🙂 ), Burpees, anything KB, and my absolute favorite thruster.
MP: Murph. I also like when we do “Bring Sally Up” as a warm up or SWOD.
8. What are your goals for the upcoming year?
MP: Butterfly pull-ups and muscle ups. Finish Murph RX.
9. Before starting CrossFit what was your view of CrossFit? How has that changed since joining?
MP: I had no opinion of CrossFit. I only thought it would be cool to do it if I was as fit as the people doing it. And to think that all I had to do was actually start coming to the box and try it. What a concept!!!
