CrossFit is for all kinds of people. Anyone can do it.

I was injured back in 2006 playing soccer which caused an early onset of arthritis in my lower back. The only way to cure it, according to doctors, was to build my core. I tried for years to strengthen my core without much success. After running more than 2 miles my back would ache and I would be unable to continue. When I first started CrossFit I was a skeptic because when I looked at the exercises I knew they would kill my back. Within three months of doing the CrossFit program I felt as if I had been given a new lease on life. My back has never been so strong.

I started CrossFit while deployed to Iraq and saw huge improvements in not only myself but my whole team. Our Physical Fitness Test scores all improved and I got my first perfect score. Not only did our scores improve but it better prepared us to go out on our missions and prepared us for most all situations. CrossFit is very applicable to every aspect of our lives.

CrossFit is for all kinds of people. Anyone can do it. CrossFit is adaptable to each individual physical shape. I know that if you give CrossFit a chance it will change the way you look at fitness and the way you live your life.

I got my CrossFit level one training certificate in July of 2011 and this has opened the door for me to train others in something that has quite literally changed my life. I know CrossFit will continue to grow and will touch the lives of many others. I look forward to being a part of this growth and to facilitate in the progression of athletes toward their personal goals.

So, this I tell you athletes of all shapes, sizes, ages and ability levels.... YOU CAN DO IT. I dare you... come to Crossfit The Point, and I will show you where you belong.

Hi, My name is Am… Amber Kaye Smith but I am called Am, and at Crossfit the Point I am called “Mama”. I just hit my third year mark as a crossfitter. I have reached goals I never thought I would achieve. I have lost 160+lbs and gained some back. I have been committed and I have just gone through the motions. I have cried, I have spit, said I can’t but I have never quit!  I have never quit because I want more for my life.  I wanted to find a level of fitness that I could be proud of. I am still a big girl, but I have never been more strong, mentally physically and best part is… I can do anything.  I can do anything I set my mind to, and Crossfit has taught me that.  I am now a crossfit trainer for Crossfit the Point and I love it!  I love the feeling I get when one of the members of the gym reaches that goal that he/she has been striving to get.  I would say that as a coach my love for crossfit has grown SIGNIFICANTLY…  I get to see the progress of the people I love, I get to see first hand what it feels like to succeed, and the small and large victories that we as a gym share together.  I train all the foundations classes and a few others, but my main coaching job is foundations so I am the first face you see.  Hate to say it, but sorry fellow coaches, I got the best job of them all.  I get the people that have decided to try something new. I get that first scared-excited-anxious-nervous athlete that comes into the gym unsure that they just made the best decision of their life…. they chose to GET MOVING. They chose HEALTH over the cozy couch and THAT is motivating. That is a huge accomplishment; to make the decision to simply want more.  So, this I tell you athletes of all shapes, sizes, ages and ability levels…. YOU CAN DO IT.  I dare you… come to Crossfit The Point, and I will show you where you belong.  You will feel at home in a matter of a moment. You will accomplish everything you hope to.  Nothing comes without hard work, but who better to work hard with than your friends and fellow athletes.  I invite you to my class and allow me to share with you my love for the best decision you will ever make.

To encourage kids to have a love for fitness and exercise, something that will hopefully last them a lifetime, is priceless.

My love of sports began as a young child where I was a high school cross country and track athlete which led me to compete at the collegiate level at the University of Utah. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and began a career working with cardiac and pulmonary patients. I enjoyed writing exercise prescription and programs for these patients, especially the work I did with the Cystic Fibrosis patients. I complimented my love for anatomy and physiology with a license in Massage Therapy.

After some events in my life, I decided to change career paths and for the past 13 years I have worked with High Risk Leukemia and Bone Marrow Transplant patients. This job has given me a love for life and I’m so amazed at the people I meet that get through such adversities. I have learned to enjoy every minute of every day because you never know what your future holds for you.

I began Crossfit in the summer of 2011. My addiction began with a small group of friends in a garage gym. It soon became such a big part of my life and thankfully I’m able to share that love of Crossfit with my kids as well. Crossfit is a beautiful way for people to get dramatic changes in their bodies and builds such mental toughness. I see members whose self-confidence just soars after only a few months of Crossfit. I love being able to be a part of that and look forward to many more years of being a member of such a beautiful and positive Crossfit family.

I have also recently become Crossfit kids certified and I love coaching the kids. To encourage kids to have a love for fitness and exercise, something that will hopefully last them a lifetime, is priceless.

It is something special to be able to walk to into the box and help coach athletes through physical and mental trials. Their ability to reach beyond their personal goals pushes me to work out harder and to dig deeper in my own moments of struggle.

I began doing Crossfit because I was looking for something more in my fitness training. I spent hours at the local 24 Hour Fitness every day doing the “normal” work out routines. I felt confident within the gym with my strength and my conditioning ability. But when outside of the gym, the strength that I seemed to be gaining did not translate to any improvements applicable outside of it. Crossfit has now given me the ability and confidence to apply my fitness beyond the gym. Along with being stronger than I’ve ever been before, the environment and culture of our box has provided me with the foundational support to continually better myself both physically and mentally.

Currently, I am a senior attending the University of Utah studying Exercise Physiology with hopes and ambitions of attending medical school upon graduation. I began training Crossfit because I love to help people attain their goals. It is something special to be able to  walk to into the box and help coach athletes through physical and mental trials. Their ability to reach beyond their personal goals pushes me to work out harder and to dig deeper in my own moments of struggle. Being both a trainer and athlete of Crossfit, I will continually strive to improve my fitness capability and assist those who are looking to improve their own as well. Isn’t that what life is about? Continually improving.
