Coach Dan's Sunday Spotlight 4.6.2025

Good Afternoon CFTP!

13 Year Beast Mode

I am so grateful to you all. Last night was very special for me. Saw some old friends and also was able to do a beast mode that really brought back the memories from all the years of beast modes we have done over the past 13 years.

As I was finishing my last round that began with 13 devil's presses, I had a rush of memories go through my head as I thought about each one as if it was one year spent doing the job I love, being owner and operator at CrossFit The Point. It reminded me of the struggle and challenges each of those years brought and the lessons learned. It reminded me of all the people I have met along the way and when I finished the workout surrounded by many of those people, it reminded me of why I do what I do.

After the Beast Mode workout, I made an announcement that I am stepping down from my position as Owner/Operator at CrossFit The Point. We have been in discussions with Justin Dickson of SLC CrossFit and we will be bringing them in to take over. The details and timeline will be announced soon as we finish everything up between the two of us.

13 Years

After the announcement we watched a video put together by Hannah Olson with memories of CrossFit The Point. She did an amazing job capturing many of the memories over the years. I will share that video soon for everyone on social media.

I started CrossFit The Point when I was 28 years old. I was single and had just completed my service in the Army. Fast forward to today and I have a wife, 4 kids and a gym family that will forever be a part of me. I met my wife at The Point. I have rubbed shoulders with the best of the best.

This decision to move on was not an easy one and has been something Emily and I have wrestled with for a long time but with me moving onto a new career, Real Estate Agent, and Emily creating her own business, we feel as if it is time for us to let go.

SLC CrossFit

Why SLC CrossFit? Well SLC CrossFit is a perfect fit and are building something very amazing. I believe that going with SLC CrossFit will be a great opportunity for us as a community.

First and foremost, Emily and myself don't plan on going anywhere. We are super excited to continue to be part of this community that we love. I also plan to coach going forward. We aren't going anywhere.

I know change is hard for all of us but I hope that you can trust that we didn't make this decision lightly and I truly believe it is the right decision for the longevity of CrossFit The Point and our community. No matter who might be in charge, what makes CrossFit The Point, CrossFit The Point is the people who are within the walls.

So what now?

We will be rolling out details of changes as things get finished up on the business side of things but for the time being, you all shouldn't see much change. This next week you will see some new faces coaching. These individuals are from the SLC South coaching team. The future manager who you will begin to see much more often is Elijah. Elijah will be awesome and I look forward to learning from him. Some of you have already met him.

The goal as we transition over is to keep the changes to a minimum. SLC CrossFit recognizes that we have an amazing thing going and we don't want to disrupt that but we do want to improve on things that we can improve on. They bring some expertise that can add to the value of the gym and the experience for the members.

Conclusion

I will be forever grateful for the opportunity I have had for 13 years to be the leader here at CrossFit The Point. I don't take that role lightly and I have loved it. You all are all I have thought about day in and day out and I have loved every minute of it. (Well maybe not every minute but mostly ;))

Excited to see you all at The Point this week. And if you need to buy or sell a house, hit me up! I will take as much care in serving you there as I have done through the years at The Point!
